In tragic news, former Vikings, Seahawks and Bills quarterback Tarvaris Jackson passed away in a car accident Sunday night. He was 36 years old. Henry Lake from WCCO in Minneapolis received word early.

NFL's Ian Rapoport followed up with additional information.

Jackson was drafted by the Vikings in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft and he quickly took over the starting job. In his second season, he led Minnesota to an 8-4 record in the games he started that year. Overall, he was 10-10 as the Vikings starter over a five-year span.

He immediately earned the head quarterback job in Seattle after being signed in the 2011 offseason, leading Seattle to a 7-7 record as the starter. A trade the following season sent him to the Bills, but he was back in Seattle before long and earned a Super Bowl ring in 2013 as the backup to Russell Wilson.

Jackson retired at age 32 following the 2015 season. Most recently, Jackson was an offensive analyst and quarterbacks coach for Tennessee State University, a Division I school. He had formerly coached at Alabama State University, overseeing quality control and the quarterback unit.

Upon hearing the news, there was an outpouring of emotion on social media from former teams and teammates.
