Thursday it was the Twins. Friday was their AAA affiliate's turn as the St. Paul Saints celebrate their own opening day.
The Saints sent the home-town folks home happy with an 11-0 stomping of Indianapolis.
It's one of the most hallowed days in sports says Saints' Director of Media Relations, Sean Aronson.
"You wait a long, long offseason, especially in Minnesota where it's cold, it's dark, snows all over the place. This is, you know, the day that you wait for opening day," says Aronson.
Nice weather in late March? Typically no. This weekend won't be an exception to that.
"We have not played a home opener on the day that it was scheduled the last two years," Aronson says.
But, thanks to beautiful, summer-like weather Friday evening, the Saints played their season opener on the day it's scheduled for the first time in three years.
But beyond the weather, this year is different with a Saints roster that is stacked.
"I think this is the best opening day roster that we've ever had," Aronson says. "You've got two top 100 prospects in baseball. You've got 10 top 30 guys in the Twins organization. You've got a starting pitching staff that any one of them could be called up at any time. And the Twins themselves have talked about how their rotation right now is legitimately eight deep."
Add in some fun giveaways and the table is set for the weekend, including jackets and fireworks.
