Skip the groundhog. You want a sure sign of spring?

Boxes and boxes of Minnesota Twins baseball gear are being loaded onto an 18-wheeler on Monday, which will take everything down to Fort Myers for Spring Training.

Joe Fisher has been coordinating equipment packing day since 2017, and kept working while he talked with WCCO's Al Schoch on Monday.

"Well, the most important thing today is to get all this gear on the truck so the guys can get down to Florida and play some ball," said Fisher.

Fisher will leave Minneapolis Tuesday, bound for Florida.

The goal is to have everything unpacked and ready to go for Twins players by the end of the week.

"When I get there I get greeted by the entire crew of the trainers, the clubhouse staff, and all of the grounds crew down there in Florida, and we make light work of getting all this stuff ready for the fellas to play ball," Fisher added.

He says the trip down south is a little boring, and it should be smooth unless bad weather gets in the way.

Twins pitchers and catchers report to spring training in about a week. The first spring training game is Feb. 20 against the University of Minnesota, which can be heard on 830 WCCO and the Audacy App.
