The Minnesota Star Tribune recently launched their Strib Varsity sports hub, focusing on high school athletes and teams across the state.
Now, Strib Varsity is teaming up with WCCO Radio and the Morning News with Vineeta Sawkar to shine that light even brighter.
The two Minnesota media giants will launch a new weekly segment to celebrate student-athletes, high schools and communities across Minnesota.
The “WCCO + Strib Varsity” segment will air every Friday at 7:50 a.m. with Strib Varsity reporters and journalists joining the WCCO Morning News with Vineeta each week.
They'll share what stories they are working on and more about that week’s top story lines.
Strib Varsity director Chris Carr joined Sawkar on the debut segment this Friday and talked about the new partnership.
"We share that value of like wanting to celebrate these communities, the kids, the coaches, the families," says Carr. "There's just this endless well of stories to tell all the way across all across Minnesota. You all do a great job of, of bringing a lot of those to life. I'm proud of the work that, that we do and our team does. So it just makes a lot of sense for us to partner."
Sawkar also spent time working at the Star Tribune as a video host, and spoke about the passion for high school sports in the state.
"I enjoy really spotlighting athletes and the families and the storylines, which I know you all have been covering and will continue to cover," Sawkar adds. "You think about a gorgeous Friday night, Friday night lights in this state, and even the games tonight. You think about some of these great matchups that we have going, really, really good rivalries, really, really good storylines."
