Karill Kaprizov has signed a massive eight-year contract to remain with the Minnesota Wild.

It's the largest largest contract in NHL history, reportedly worth $136 million. The contract begins in the 2026-27 season and goes through the 2033-34 season.

Kaprizov's status was unclear with one year remaining on the contract he signed in 2021, and reports earlier this month that he turned down an extension.

The Russian native was drafted by the Wild in 2015, and was the NHL's top rookie in his first season.

He has scored 185 goals in five seasons in Minnesota, and has been an All-Star five times.

Despite concerns from fans the Wild weren't going to get a deal done with their superstar, the owner and GM of the Wild preached patience. Owner Craig Leipold said last week he was fully confident in leaving the process to general manager Bill Guerin and his assistants.

“Billy’s the guy. He’s the one that does the negotiating, no matter who it is, and that’s his responsibility and his role,” Leipold said on Thursday night. “We've got a great relationship.”

Kaprizov said last week after the team's first practice that he considers Minnesota his “second home” behind his native Russia and likes being in the Twin Cities area and playing for the Wild.

“We have a lot of time. It’s just 2025, and it’s one more year I have,” he said then. “I just want to play hockey and focus and win some games and go in playoffs and win there.”
