The Minnesota Wild have moved on from Jordan Greenway. After what has been a disappointing season for Greenway, he has been traded to Buffalo Friday just before the deadline.
The Wild will receive a second-round pick (that first belonged to Las Vegas) in this year's draft, and a fifth-rounder in 2024.
Greenway played in 45 games but has only tallied seven points on two goals and five assists while battling some injuries.
There were also two more deadline deals. The Wild are bringing in winger Oskar Sundqvist from Detroit in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.
And with a third trade Friday, they're adding Anaheim defenseman John Klingberg. The Wild gives Anaheim Andrej Sustr, Nikita Nesterenko, and a 2025 fourth round pick.
Klingberg, 30, comes to the Wild with plenty of experience. The Swedish-born defenseman has played in 50 games for the Ducks with eight goals and 16 assists. He went to Anaheim after a lot of success and postseason experience in Dallas, which the Wild hope translates into some postseason success here too.
Sundqvist had seven goals and 14 assists with the Red Wings. Wild GM Bill Guerin confirmed Friday that both Sundqvist and Klingman will be in the lineup Saturday night in Calgary.
So far it has been a season that hasn’t quite lived up to expectations, but the Wild are still hanging with the Central Division leading Dallas Stars. Dallas has 79 points to the Wild’s 76 after a win in Vancouver late Thursday.
Still, the team is has struggled to score goals but great goaltending has kept them in it. Filip Gustavsson has been particularly good, ranking second in the league in goals allowed per game.
As has young superstar Kirill Kaprizov who has 73 points, and is fifth in the NHL with 39 goals. Kaprizov has almost single-handedly carried the Wild of late.
