It's here, the Wild's "Crazy Game of Hockey" charity weekend.
It begins Friday night with a music-filled reception at the Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis, with former players and celebrities taking part in a hockey game Saturday at Tria Rink in downtown Saint Paul.
It concludes with a concert at the Armory in Minneapolis on Saturday with O.A.R. and Cory Wong.
The Wild's Andrew Heydt told WCCO's Morning News with Vineeta Sawkar that there was lots of interest when the event was first announced.
"Once we got word out, we had people almost knocking at our door to get a spot on the roster," says Heydt. "I think it'll be pretty fun to see how this evolves and see everyone on the ice."
The rosters are loaded with Minnesota celebrities including former Twin Joe Mauer, and outdoor TV host Bill Sherck. There are even a few national celebs like TV host Mark DeCarlo and former NBA first overall draft pick Greg Ostertag. Of course there are several former Wild players and a handful of Gopher and USA Hockey female players as well.
This is the first big event for the Wild Alumni Association, which was created earlier this year. The Saturday hockey game is already sold out but you can still get tickets to the other two events. Click here for more information.
Proceeds from the weekend go to the Minnesota Wild Foundation.
