Longtime Minnesota Twins television broadcaster Dick Bremer gets inducted to the Twins Hall of Fame Saturday at Target Field.

Bremer's the 42nd member of the Twins Hall of Fame.

Ironically, Bremer has been the voice of many of those inductions, talking to fans as Joe Mauer, Ron Gardenhire, Justin Morneau, and so many others join that exclusive Twins fraternity. Now, it is Bremer's turn to be honored.

"Fans generally understood that I was one of them," Bremer told the WCCO Morning News with Adam Carter. "I grew up a Twins fan, never imagined that I'd someday draw a paycheck from them. But I think people understood that my passion was genuine on the air."

Bremer joins other Twins broadcast legends in the Hall of Fame, including longtime Twins and WCCO Radio voices Herb Carneal and John Gordon, plus former players turned broadcasters Bert Blyleven and Dan Gladden.

It was being a fan first that made Bremer stand out from the crowd, in a career choice that generally doesn't last that long with one organization. Bremer called Twins games for 40 seasons, transitioning out of that role following the 2023 season.

"People understood I was calling the games from their perspective, and when they tuned in, they knew the guy on the air was all-in on this job," Bremer adds. And certainly wanted the Twins to do well. So, I'm guessing that's why I lasted as long as I did in a very competitive business."

Speaking of fans, the first 5,000 Saturday at Target Field will receive a Dick Bremer Hall of Fame pin.

Born in St. Paul and raised in Dumont, Minnesota, Bremer began his Twins play-by-play career with Spectrum Sports from 1983-85. Bremer missed the 1986 season, but he rejoined the club’s broadcast team in quite a year to do it, 1987, when the Twins won their first World Series.

Bremer than served as the play-by-play voice on TV through the 2023 season, working with the club through numerous incarnations including Twinsvision, Midwest Sports Channel, Victory Sports, Fox Sports North, and than Bally Sports North.

The Twins Hall of Fame, which honors players, managers, coaches and off-field personnel who have contributed to the organization’s growth and success since Minnesota broke into the major leagues in 1961, was created as part of the club’s 40th Season Celebration in 2000.

Bremer was elected to the Twins Hall of Fame as a “Veterans Committee” inductee. Introduced in 2005, the Veterans Committee includes all living Twins Hall of Fame members, Twins executives and local baseball historians. Those eligible to be voted into the Twins Hall of Fame via the Veterans Committee balloting can include ownership, scouts, broadcasters, managers, coaches, media and front office personnel.

As for on the field, the Twins are sitting two games back in the AL Central after taking two of three from Cleveland. They host the Los Angeles Angels for three Friday through Sunday with the Hall of Fame ceremony for Bremer taking place prior to Saturday's game. That is set for a 12:30 p.m. pregame, 1:10 p.m. first pitch which you can hear live on 830 WCCO and via the Audacy app (in-market only).
