For the fourth time in his career, Twins shortstop Carlos Correa is the American League player of the week.
And what a week it was for both Correa and his team.
In seven games, Correa had 17 hits in 31 at-bats for a scorching .548 batting average.
Five of those hits came during last Wednesday's win over the Rockies, the first five-hit game in his career.
He also had five hits in Sunday's doubleheader sweep of the Athletics.
During the week, he hit three home runs, drove in nine, and scored nine times.
The week-long tear raised Correa's 2024 batting average 43 points to .308, his highest mark since the first week of the season.
The spurt may help Correa in the All-Star Balloting.
The first round of returns from the worldwide online voting finds Correa with 6,311 votes, nearly 700,000 votes behind the leader for AL shortstops, Gunnar Henderson of the Orioles.
Correa is the only Twins player in the top ten among vote-getters at any position.
Henderson is second in the AL in home runs with 22, four behind Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge.
In addition to Correa's honor, the Twins also grabbed the play of the week.
It was one heck of a grab by center fielder Austin Martin, who went high over the bullpen fence at Target Field to take away a home run from Oakland's Shea Langeliers.
The web gem happened during the second game of Sunday's split doubleheader.
The Twins on Tuesday begin a three-game series against Tampa Bay that wraps up their only homestand of June.
It's Pablo Day at Target Field, with Twins righthander Pablo Lopez looking to win his second consecutive start.
He's now 6-6 with a 5.33 earned run average.
Lopez suffered through a rough spot last month, losing three straight starts in which he allowed 16 runs.
Former Cleveland starter Aaron Civale is on the mound for the Rays.
In his first season with Tampa Bay, Civale is 2-5 with a 5.20 ERA.
The Rays have lost seven of their last ten and are in last place in the AL East.
The Twins are on a five-game winning streak, which pulled them to within 5 1/2 games of Cleveland in the AL Central.
