After clenching the AL Central Division championship the Twins will host the Toronto Blue Jays in a best-of-three Wild Card series at Target Field. It begins Tuesday and downtown businesses are busy preparing for fans.
Brad Johnson manager of Irish pub The Local says they're ready for large crowds he just hopes he can keep up with staffing.
"We are a large establishment so we do have plenty of room, I think with the patio, we're around 450 to 500 people," says Johson. "Let's go Twins!"
Lyons Pub Manager Ray Rodgers says he's excited for the potential a Twins winning streak could have for the city.
"I hope they go all the way to the World Series," hopes Rodgers. "We've done a couple of those World Series here in '87 and '91 and we were open then and that was an awesome, exciting time. And you'd want to relive that again, so strive for that."
Palmer Michaels is one Jays fan that's planning to sit back and ejoy the show. And if you're worried this is a repeat of Philadelphia Eagle fans, think again.
"Jays fans are more of a friendly bunch, people that don't normally drink too much, we like everybody else really, except Yankee fans," says Michaels. "Toronto doesn't have many rivals so it's probably going to be more of a friendly postseason series."
Michaels says he decided to come the playoffs right after Sunday's game when the Blue Jays finally found out they'd be playing in Minnesota in the Wild Card round.
Excitement for the Twins mixed with some unexpected warm fall weather has downtown businesses hoping people will be out and about all week.
The Twins and Blue Jays play game one Tuesday with first pitch at 3:38 p.m. You can hear that game live on 830 WCCO, or on the Audacy app (live game play-by-play is available for in-market fans only).
