While the Twins will be down one superstar, they'll add their highly-touted top prospect to the big league roster.
Royce Lewis is expected to be called up from Triple-A St. Paul to replace Carlos Correa. Correa was hit by a pitch on Thursday night and the Twins are now reporting that Correa's finger is "bruised and sore". Initial reports were saying it was potentially broken, so the update Friday afternoon is a good one for the team and Correa.
President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey told reporters Friday Correa's finger will be monitored day-to-day and it may not require him to miss much time.
Lewis is joining the team after playing in 24 games this season for the Saints. Lewis has missed the past two years due to injury and the minors not playing during the COVID-shortened major league season. The shortstop is slashing .310/.411/.563 with with three home runs and 11 RBI in 107 plate appearances this season.
The Twins start a three-game weekend series against the Oakland Athletics Friday night at Target Field.
