The late start to the baseball season has also created the need to recreate the spring training schedule for Major League teams.

The Twins, who traditionally start the spring with a game against the University of Minnesota at the end of February, will now play their first spring game on Thursday, March 17 at JetBlue Park against Boston.

The Twins are playing a total of 20 spring games now, and like MLB did under COVID, teams are playing inside a small bubble to limit travel with the shortened camps.  The Twins will play a rotation of teams that include their Fort Myers counterparts, Boston, along with Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore. All of those teams are located along the Gulf Coast between Tampa-St. Petersburg and Fort Myers.

News Talk 830 WCCO and 102.9 The Wolf will air a portion of the Twins spring training games with all broadcast games available via the Audacy App (only available in the Twin Cities metro area). The broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.

The games will feature Cory Provus and Dan Gladden, together for their 11th season on the Twins Radio Network. Kris Atteberry will also be back as the studio host along with doing a package of games during the season.

The MLB regular season schedule still hasn’t been officially released yet, although they’ve announced April 7 will be opening day. The Twins are set to host Seattle at Target Field with a 3:10 p.m. first pitch.

The first week of the season will be made up with Provus telling WCCO’s Vineeta Sawkar Friday that he believes the three games at the Chicago White Sox will be made up in October after what was supposed to be the final series of the season. He says with the Twins having two more trips during the year to Cleveland, those three games will be scheduled as doubleheaders.

Also of note, Twins regular season tickets will go on sale next Thursday, March 17 just in time for spring training games to begin. Since the Twins opened the season with two series on the road, their home schedule was not affected by the late start.
