The Twins are parting ways with one of their off-season experiments.
The team announced today that they have designated pitcher Matt Shoemaker for release or assignment. If Shoemaker passes through waivers and the Twins offer, he could take an assignment to Triple-A affiliate St. Paul.
The team hoped signing Shoemaker in the off-season would shore up the back half of their starting rotation. Shoemaker started 11 times for the Twins before being demoted to the bullpen. He ended his tenure in Minnesota with a 3-8 record and an 8.06 ERA in 60.1 innings pitched.
The Twins promoted pitcher Derek Law to the 26-man roster to take Shoemaker's place. Law has had five appearances with the Twins so far this season, pitching 6.1 innings in relief and giving up six earned runs.
