Twins top prospect Royce Lewis exited Sunday's afternoon game against the Kansas City Royals after slamming into the wall in center field while making a catch.

According to the Twins, Lewis left the game with pain in his surgically repaired left knee, where he had previously torn his ACL in February 2021.

Lewis was making his first career start in center field and was believed to be preparing for the Twins' upcoming road trip.

The play in which it is believed he aggravated his knee was a jumping catch at the warning track for a long fly ball hit by Royals’ Emmanuel Rivera. Lewis made the catch and finished the inning.

Lewis shared with News Talk 830 WCCO that he had been preparing for his shot at the majors while rehabbing last season and that he felt it didn’t affect any of his abilities.

"[The injury] doesn't affect my running. I have gotten faster, I feel like. I've worked on some muscles I never used to have,” Lewis said. “I never used to have any calves, and when I came home, my family said, "Oh! I see you have some calves now.'"

Lewis is still being evaluated by Twins staff, and the team is expected to share more information when the game ends.
