Minnesota Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson announced Wednesday that he is returning to Minnesota on a one-year deal.

Peterson, who spent the first nine years of his career with the Arizona Cardinals before signing a one-year contract with the Vikings last offseason, made his newest one-year deal official on his podcast, All Things Covered. The deal is worth $4 million with a chance to make it $5 million through incentives.

“I’m going to stay put in Minnesota and run it back with the guys,” Peterson said. “... I’m betting on myself again.”

Peterson said he had interest from the Chicago Bears, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Commanders but ultimately decided to return to the Vikings.

“The team is stacked. We just couldn't put it all together in certain situations (last year). It wasn't the outcome we wanted, but we've got another crack at it,” he said.

Peterson, who turns 32 this summer, played in 13 of 17 games for Minnesota last season on a one-year $8 million deal. Throughout this offseason, Peterson voiced his interest in returning to the Vikings and now has his wish. He will rejoin a defensive secondary that still has starters Harrison Smith and Cameron Dantzler but that has lost several pieces from a year ago, including Xavier Woods and Mackensie Alexander. Minnesota has also signed former Packers cornerback Chandon Sullivan to a one-year deal.

Speaking about the roster, Peterson said he expects the team to add to the secondary in next month’s NFL Draft.

“I think they are definitely going to draft a corner at some point,” he said.
