The Minnesota Vikings have announced Tuesday head coach Kevin O'Connell has agreed to a multi-year contract extension. Terms of the deal were not immediately available.
"It is an absolute honor to continue leading the Minnesota Vikings," O'Connell said in a statement Tuesday. "Holding this prestigious position is something I never take for granted, and I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Wilf family for their unwavering belief in what we are building together."
O'Connell led the Vikings to a 14-3 record and a wildcard slot in 2024, before losing in the playoffs to Los Angeles. O'Connell has a 34-17 record over three years but that 0-2 record in the playoffs is the one hump he has yet to get over.
"There is no question this team is on the right trajectory under Kevin's continued leadership," Viking owner and chairman Zygi Wilf said in a statement. "His authenticity, passion and positive energy, along with his impressive understanding of the game, has helped lead to the success we've experienced over the past three years and will be foundational blocks on which to build moving forward."
Also looking for a contract extension is the team's General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah who came in the same year as O'Connell. The Wilf family had said in December they planned to get both done shortly after the season ended.
O'Connell added in his statement that Vikings fans are the "best in the NFL."
