The new starting power forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves was officially introduced to the media Thursday.
While the deal's been done for a while now, Jonathan Kuminga didn't arrive in Minnesota until earlier this week.
Kuming, now 24, calls the decision to join the Timberwolves the best decision he's ever made.
"Just looking at the roster, looking at the young group of guys they have, and just seeing what they've done in the past and things that they're trying to accomplish going forward," Kuminga explained. "And I think I just, I feel well with this coach."
Kuminga took a relatively affordable deal in today's NBA, with Minnesota not allowed to offer as much as some other teams, like the LA Lakers, in order to avoid the luxury tax threshold. Kuminga signed a two-year, $12.4 million contract, with a player option for year two. He made $26 million last year in Atlanta.
"God has a plan for all of us," he said Thursday. "All I got to do is just come here and do my job every single day, and the rest of the thing will handle itself."
Kuminga says daily conversations with two key players influenced his decision to come to Minnesota, with Anthony Edwards and newly traded-for guard Lamelo Ball pitching in to get him in the Twin Cities.
"I think me and Melo, and Ant spoke pretty much every single day, especially Ant," Kuminga explains. "He called me every single time, he checked up on me, and he's a very, very genuine person. He didn't have to do that. That just shows how much he wants to bring me over here."
Minnesota's preseason games begin October 5 with the first regular season home game set for October 25 against Toronto.
