Two weeks into early voting, Minneapolis is seeing a high number of voters casting ballots ahead of Election Day, Nov. 2.
Through yesterday, there have been 2,827 early votes accepted for the municipal election. Of those, 448 have been cast by mail, 2,376 have been cast early in-person, and three have been cast by other methods (ballots processed by Hennepin County, agent deliveries and health care facilities). A total of 8,056 mail-in ballots have been sent to Minneapolis voters this election year.
There are three ways voters can cast their ballots: by mail, in person at the Early Vote Center or at their polling place on Election Day.
"You can see exactly what the ballot in your precinct will look like," said Aaron Grossman, with the city's election office. "Just go to vote.minneapolismn.gov/voters/ballot and a link there will take you to a Minnesota Secretary of State webpage where you can get your sample ballot."
Early voting can be done in person at the Early Vote Center, 980 Hennepin Ave. E. Standard voting hours will be Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., with extended hours including weekends in the final days before Election Day.
"It’s a great way to make sure you’re prepared for the voting booth, and you can bring it with you to the polls as a reference," said Grossman.
To vote early by mail, voters may request an absentee ballot. Ballots are then mailed out, and they include everything a voter needs to send back a completed ballot.
The City is working to remind folks how to use ranked-choice voting, and to make sure people know how to register to vote, how to find their polling place, and to answer any other questions about voting.
