Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan are in quarantine.
The governor's office says both were exposed to a staff member who tested positive for COVID-19. In a statement, the governor's spokesman says they were not within six feet of the staff member for more than 15 minutes, but were in the same room as the person during a press conference on Monday.
The Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm will quarantine through March 25th, which is 10 days since the time of the exposure and what the CDC recommends. Governor Walz has not yet been vaccinated. Lieutenant Governor Flanagan has received her first of two shots. Commissioner Malcolm has received the one-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine, but is still within a 14-day waiting period.
Walz's office canceled a planned tour of the state's newest vaccination center in St. Cloud this morning.
