The warm weather may be making it easier to drive and heat our homes, but not everyone is thrilled that temperatures aren’t dropping below freezing.

One group upset with the above-average temperatures is the organizers behind the Minnesota Ice Festival, who canceled their 2024 event due to the heat.

The 2024 Minnesota Ice Festival was expected to draw 120,000 people from Jan. 5 to mid-February.

Minnesota Ice CEO Robbie Harrell says it takes weeks to put together the spectacle and maze, and at this point, the cancellation comes as safety concerns rise.

“Unfortunately, we’re just not going to be able to make it work this year in a way that would be safe for all the attendees and deliver the really cool experience that we want to put on,” Harrell said.

A full refund will be given to those who already purchased tickets, which Harrell said will take seven to 10 days to receive.

While the festival may not be taking place this year, Harrell shared that plans are already being put in place for 2025.

“Big thanks to our community and everyone who supports Minnesota Ice – the Super El Niño might have paused our festival this year, but your warmth keeps our spirits high! We’re already crafting icy wonders for 2025, so stay tuned for a season full of chill and thrill. Your support means the world to us, and we can’t wait to share what’s next!” Harrell said.
