Duluth police say five family members and a family dog were found dead Wednesday afternoon inside a family home.
Police made the grisly discovery around 12:30 p.m. during a welfare check that started in Hermantown. That welfare check led police to Duluth's East Hillside neighborhood and a home on the 700 block of East 12th Street.
Police entered the Duluth home and were told the person they were looking for had access to weapons. There, the five bodies were found.
“Earlier today an unimaginable tragedy that struck our community. One that really is very, very difficult to us. Makes us have heavy, heavy hearts," said Duluth Police Chief, Mike Tusken, who spoke on Wednesday night.
Names of the people have yet to be released, but reports indicate that all five individuals are believed to be related.
Things happened today that can’t be undone. Tonight we are a community in pain and shock, sharing a sorrow for the loss of our people.
