Brooklyn Park police are investigating a Wednesday afternoon hit and run accident involving a 6-year-old boy and a school bus.
Officers were dispatched to the scene just after 3 p.m. on the 8700 block of Edinbrook Crossing in Brooklyn Park. Officers arrived and found the 6-year-old child's lower extremities had been run over by a bus. The child is currently in the hospital. Authorities believe the injuries to be non-life threatening.
According to the city of Brooklyn Park, the child had been dropped off by the school bus in the parking lot of the Edinburgh Golf Course to walk home to a nearby residence.
Police say the bus driver initially was unaware of the accident and left the scene but authorities have since been able to locate both the bus and the bus driver. The bus company operating the route was Student Safe LLC. There were other children on the bus at the time of the incident.
The incident is under active investigation by the Brooklyn Park Police Department and the MN State Patrol.
