Workers at Casey’s General Store in Cannon Falls may have saved the life of a woman who was abducted by a stranger in the Twin Cities. Store workers offered the woman help when she was able to get away from the abductor.
The Cannon Falls Police Department shared that the woman, only described as being in her mid-30s, was able to get away after being abducted. She arrived at the store before 11 a.m. on Saturday, and employees contacted the authorities.
The woman was taken when she entered a man’s vehicle in downtown Minneapolis, expecting him to drive her to her destination, but instead, he drove around the metro area, refusing to let her leave.
Officers with the department found the suspect, a 25-year-old man from Minneapolis, who had abducted the woman shortly after and at which point he fled in his vehicle.
Police followed, which eventually resulted in the suspect crashing into a pursuing squad car before driving north on Highway 52 and eluding the authorities, police shared.
The suspect was later seen in Northfield heading south on Interstate 35, and another 20-mile chase broke out but eventually resulted in the man being placed in custody in Faribault.
The woman did not know who the man was, according to police, who also noted that she was not physically hurt.
The suspect is currently being held at the Goodhue County jail on various charges.
