Another weekend - and another major Twin Cities freeway closure to be ready for, and this time it's in the north metro.

Interstate 694 westbound will be closed for more than six miles between 35W in New Brighton and Shingle Creek Parkway in Brooklyn Center.

MnDOT is calling it a "mega maintenance" project that aims to address every possible issue that needs fixing or repair.

The closure begins at 10:00 p.m. Friday with lanes reopening by 5:00 a.m. Monday morning.

All ramps to and from the interstate along westbound I-694 will close starting at 8:00 p.m. and there will also be no access to the westbound interstate from cross streets in the project area.

During the westbound I-694 closure, motorists will detour on I-694, Highway 10, Highway 610 and Highway 169.

Wondering about the eastbound side? Don't worry. A similar maintenance effort is planned in the same area of eastbound I-694 in early August.
