A violent and deadly confrontation during an attempted car theft in South Minneapolis Seward neighborhood.

Police are investigating after a man in his 40s was reportedly gunned down while confronting a suspected car thief outside his place of work. Police say he was shot in the torso.

Officers responded to the scene in the 2600 block of 32nd Avenue South just before 7:00 a.m.

According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene following a brief struggle.

"During that struggle, the victim was shot," O'Hara explains. "About 20 minutes later, the victim was found by a coworker who then called 911."

There are currently no suspects in custody, and police are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and urging the public to come forward with any information.

"It appears he was here at the start of his shift, and he may have gone into the parking lot for for whatever reason, but then discovered, you know, someone who is not typically here," noted O'Hara.
