A woman in Mankato has been missing for over two weeks and officials say they need the public's help to maintain search efforts. 30-year-old, Nyawuor Chuol, known as Sunday, was last seen in Eagle Lake, just east of Mankato, on April 25th.
Authorities say they have searched for Sunday on foot, by air using drones and helicopters, and by boat in surrounding lakes. Even with all those efforts, investigators have found nothing.
Captain Paul Barta, is with the Blue Earth's County Sheriff's Office.
"The only thing that we can do, law enforcement wise is make sure our search is complete in that area where she was last seen, and remain open to additional possibilities," Barta said.
Captain Barta says he has had "hard conversations" with the family regarding Sunday's potential whereabouts. He says volunteers and law enforcement agencies have searched for Sunday on foot, in case a vehicle hit her, and in the water, in case of a drowning.
The Blue Earth County Sheriffs Office says at this point, there is no evidence to suggest foul play. Sunday's family says she was not romantically involved with anyone. But there is one thing Captain Barta could not rule out.
"What if Sunday was picked up hitchhiking or walking along the shoulder of the road? There, isn't a way to rule that out right now."
Sunday's sister, Ny Chuol is remaining optimistic.
"Hopefully she's out there and that's what I'm gonna focus on," she said holding back tears. "If you can spread the word, if you can reach out, talk to your neighbors, anything you can do, or repost it."
Barta says spreading the word is key, because without any new leads the search could quickly become cold.
"One thing that we've talked about too, is at a certain point with no new information, you have to make assessments on what is conceivable or possible to be searched," Barta said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Mankato Department of Public Safety at 507-387-8744 or call 911.
