The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after an attempted traffic stop turned deadly Tuesday night in Duluth.
In a social media post, St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsay wrote that a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving on Grand Avenue and 59th Avenue West at 9:40 p.m. and that the driver fled, only to be stopped a short time later in the 7900 block of Grand Avenue.
Two deputies opened fire, hitting the male suspect, who died at the scene.
Ramsey added that a handgun was located, "in the driver’s seat area of the male's vehicle."
No deputies were injured during the incident.
Ramsey's post did not indicate whether or not the deputies involved were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting.
