One of the most photographed items in the Twin Cities will look a bit different for the next couple of months.
The cherry of the famous Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden soon will head to New York.
The Walker Art Center says that the 1,200-pound metallic fruit will be unbolted from its seat atop the spoon and shipped off to the Big Apple to get a fresh coat of paint.
Museum officials say they expect it to be back in mid-January.
The cherry and spoon has been a part of the Sculpture Garden since its opening in 1988.
This is not the first time the cherry has been repainted, with the last time was in 2009.
Records show when the cherry was repainted in 2009, the work was done at a coating facility in Hugo.
This project is being handled by Fine Art Finishes, based in Peekskill, NY.
In a statement, museum officials say Fine Art has refurbished several works by the same sculptors who created the Spoonbridge and Cherry.
