Thousands of basketball fans are descending on downtown Minneapolis for the Big Ten Women's basketball Tournament which starts Wednesday. That is followed by the Men's Big Ten Tournament next week.

Part of the festivities include a Big Ten Maker's Market located in the City Center.

Spokesperson Mitch Berthiaume says 50 local vendors have stepped up to create items for the tournament.

"Our macramé person, KnotsByKerri, is macramé-ing lanyards, so people can carry their credentials on their team-colored lanyard," explains Berthiaume.

"I donate back to people with congenital heart disease and organ transplant patients," White says. She's made basketball earrings and headbands for the tournament.

"I've created stadium bags and all the 14 team colors, different straps and zippers," says another vendor.

And there's even popcorn in the color of your favorite team.

Also at the City Center, there's a 'fan zone' for anyone to come and listen to music, play basketball, and get a bite to eat at Tom's Watch Bar which is the official host venue for the Big Ten Tournament. Featuring local creators and Big Ten Conference alumni, the Big Ten Makers Market has fan gear, gifts, and more, plus there is live music and entertainment, plus food and drinks.

Organizers explain that a lack of retail in downtown gave them the idea for the market.

The market will be open March 6–9 and March 13–16 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each of those days.
