Blue Earth County election officials are explaining what led to an brief error in their election results

Results from 17,000 test ballots were initially uploaded to the Secretary of State's website on Tuesday night in Blue Earth County.

Deputy Administrator Michael Stalberger says the error was noticed right away since results were higher than voter turnout.

"We're thinking that the wrong results, the wrong data, was posted for maybe 10 minutes on election night," Stalberger says. "Election night moves pretty fast for us, but we think it was a very short duration of time."

Stalberger says at no time was there a recount of votes and that the correct data was promptly uploaded.

"And then by 10:40 or so on election night we had all the correct data out there already," he explains.

County officials originally mixed in their test results with the primary election ballot results.

"Because it was the test data file, it was 17,000 records of ballot, which is how many we test," Stalberger adds. "That's what we do through the testing process, which was way more than we would have expected in that first batch of results data from election day."
