It started out as a routine traffic crash investigation.

Then, chaos.

Authorities Thursday released body camera video of the July 15 ambush in Fargo, ND that killed a Minnesota-born police officer and wounded two others before the shooter himself was shot by law enforcement.

Audio from the footage provides clear evidence of the rapid fire from the .223-caliber rifle fired by Mohamad Barakat, eventually showing three officers lying on the ground and the shooter on the ground but still holding the weapon despite commands to drop it.

The video is from the body camera of officer Zach Robinson, who was not wounded and fired the shots that killed Barakat.

Automatic gunfire rings out as Robinson begins to shout.

"Central, we've got shots fired!" reports Robinson, his voice breathless and wracked with terror. "Central, we've got a man with am AK-47, he's shooting at us."

Moments later, the call that no one wants to make.

"We've got three officers down, three officers down, send everybody."

Officers Andrew Dotas and Tyler Hawes were wounded in the two-minute attack, and both have been released from the hospital.

Robinson, who was put on standard administrative leave following the incident, is now back at his job.

According to authorities, Robinson fired 31 rounds, 21 striking Barakat and ultimately killing him and preventing what they say could have been a much bigger attack with summer festivities occurring in the area at the time.
