A bomb threat that was emailed to Lakeville South High School was deemed not credible Friday afternoon by Lakeville Police.

According to school officials, the bomb threat was emailed to four deans at Lakeville South High School, who then alerted police on Friday morning.

"[The email] was insinuating other school facilities and as we parsed through that, we determined that there middle and elementary schools implicated, so we wanted to take maximum cautions," said Lakeville Schools Superintendent Michael Baumann.

Several agencies joined the investigation including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

"Some may ask why we had such an aggressive or assertive investigation when so many of these threats are found to be false," said Lakeville Police Chief Jeff Long. "We all know that in today's society, many of these threats are no longer false. That's we completed and exhaustive investigation."

Lakeville area schools were closed Friday as a result of the threat. Friday was supposed to be a celebratory day at Lakeville South High School.

"Hopefully we'll be able to reschedule those events," added Baumann.
