After a nine-year career in Major League Baseball, former Minnesota Twins infielder Brian Dozier announced Thursday that he is retiring.

Dozier, 33, spent his first seven years with the Twins playing in 955 games with the franchise. During his time with the Twins, Dozier batted first in 519 games and hit 28 leadoff homers, which remains a club record.

Dozier's home run hitting reached historic levels in 2016 when he hit a career-high 42 homers, making him just the second Minnesota Twin to reach the 40-homer mark in a single season. According to the Twins, Dozier's 2016 home run mark matched Hall-of-Famer Rogers Hornsby for the second-highest single-season total by a second baseman in major league history.

Also as a Twin, Dozier participated in the 2014 Gillette Home Run Derby at Target Field, was an All-Star in 2015, and won his lone career Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2017.

Dozier's time with the Minnesota Twins came to an end when he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the end of July 2018.

From there, Dozier spent the rest of his career in the National League, where he won a World Series ring with the Washington Nationals in 2019.

Dozier hit .238 with 20 doubles and 20 home runs in 135 games that season.
