Emotions running high last night in Brooklyn Center, where city council members rejected a proposal that would have changed the way police made traffic stops.

The mother of Daunte Wright, who was shot and killed by a Brooklyn Center police officer in 2021, left city hall after the vote was taken, then returned to show her anger.

The vote was 3-2 against the plan to disallow Brooklyn Center police officers from pulling over people for low-level violations.

Daunte Wright had been pulled over for expired tabs when he was shot by former officer Kim Potter.

Potter served 16 months of two-year sentence for manslaughter.

The incident drew violent protests.

It all happed at the same time former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was on trial for killing George Floyd.
