The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after a man was hospitalized late Wednesday night after he was shot and injured by Brooklyn Center police who were responding to a domestic-related situation.
According to a press release, Brooklyn Center police were called to home just before 10:30 p.m. on the 3200 block of 63rd Avenue North on a report of a domestic related disturbance. A second caller told police that a man inside the home was armed with knives.
Investigators say at one point the man exited the home with a chainsaw after he was told that he was under arrest. Officers initially used less lethal means to try and subdue him before officers then opened fire with their service weapons, striking the male suspect.
The suspect was taken to an area hospital and was in stable condition as of Thursday morning.
Police recovered a chainsaw from the scene. It's unclear how many officers fired their weapon, but those who died are on critical incident leave.
