One of the sounds of spring and summer in the Twin Cities is back.

The famous Wurlitzer Band Organ roared back to life Friday when Cafesjian's Carousel began taking on riders in St. Paul's Como Park for the first time in two years.

The vintage 1914 spinning wheel and its 68 painted ponies was shut down all last year because of the pandemic.

It operated for 75 years at the Minnesota State Fair, survived a fire in 1939, was nearly auctioned off, and eventually was relocated to its own pavilion in Como Park 21 years ago.
