Nearly 100 veteran-friendly employers are expected to be at the Veteran Career Fair on Wednesday afternoon at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center.

"It's a great opportunity for our veteran service members and their families to attend a job fair," said Ray Douha, the Program Director of CareerForce Veterans Employment Services. "We have great employers that are veteran friendly. The veterans that attend are always walking out with great experiences being in front of those employers that are veteran friendly."

Douha told WCCO Radio's Vineeta Sawkar on Tuesday during the WCCO Radio Morning News that the job fair often helps veterans translate their military experience to applicable skills sought by employers.

"For veterans and transitioning service members, finding that perfect job is not always an easy path," Souha said. "We create these opportunities at job fairs to facilitate finding a good-fit employment. The resumes might not detail well what they've done in the military. Often time when veterans go for a job, those resumes don't tell their story."

According to the Labor of Bureau Statistics, the unemployment rate for veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time since September 2001 declined to 4.6 percent in 2021. The rate for all veterans dropped to 4.4 percent.

Minnesota's total unemployment rate in March was 2.5 percent. Figures for April have not yet been released.
