Welcome to Election Day.
Here in Minnesota, polls open at 7:00 a.m. pretty much everywhere with a few exceptions in areas with less than 500 people. Those locations are allowed to open at 10:00 a.m. but most open at 7:00 anyway.
When it comes to getting those results, they're asking Minnesota to be patient.
Hennepin County Election Director Ginny Gelms says administrators have their work cut out for them due to the absentee ballot drop off deadline getting moved this year from 3:00 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"We have five fewer hours to do it in so we know that this will mean that the time frame during which we're ready to report unofficial results on Election night will be a little bit later than what you're used to. Because we will be processing those absentee ballots on election night," says Gelms.
As for what to expect from the first bit of "results"?
"We will be able to release unofficial results reports on Election night that will include our Election Day polling place results combined with partial absentee results," Gelms explains. "And that will be the first batch of results that we release as polling places are closing up and as we finish processing that first batch of absentee ballots."
Results as they come in can be found on the Secretary of State's website.
When the polls opened Tuesday morning at Open Book on Washington Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, Sarah White and her husband were already in line and they heard another part of the process.
"It was fun to be first and second in line, because we could hear them doing the Election oath," says White. "And it gives confidence."
Even though nearly half of the registered voters in this precinct have voted early, WCCO's Al Schoch reports there's still been a steady stream of people moving up the stairs to cast their ballots.
WCCO will have live statewide coverage here all day and tonight our Election Night special, "Minnesota Votes", beginning at 8:00 p.m. on 830 WCCO and the Audacy app.
