Murder charges have been filed against a man for the weekend shooting in Downtown Minneapolis that left two people dead, including a young man celebrating his graduation from the University of St. Thomas.
Jawan Contrail Carroll, 24, is charged with two counts of 2nd degree murder, and seven counts of attempted murder. Police say Carroll is a known gang member, and was in a shootout with another man when several people caught in the crossfire were shot.
Charlie Johnson, 21, was one of them. He was killed. The other man in the shootout was also killed.
Johnson was celebrating his graduation from St. Thomas, and was expected to receive his diploma at commencement the following day.
