The judge in the Derek Chauvin trial is set to issue a ruling Friday on defense motions to delay the trial and to move it out of Hennepin County.
But also at issue is how both sides want to offer explanations for George Floyd’s behavior during the fatal encounter with Minneapolis Police May 25th.
State prosecutors argue that if Chauvin's attorneys are able to argue Floyd’s behavior was related to a heart or lung condition and consuming drugs, they want to be able to offer an alternative explanation. They want to question an expert forensic psychiatrist to show how his behavior is consistent with claustrophobia and anxiety.
Judge Peter Cahill will rule on that expert testimony, as well as a defense request to introduce a video of Floyd's arrest in 2019.
The 2019 includes evidence from a paramedic who examined Floyd finding high blood pressure that could have led to a heart attack or stroke.
