The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office is searching for suspects after multiple drivers reported large rocks and motor oil being dropped onto I-35 traffic on Sunday night.

The activity stemmed from the 530th Street overpass in Rush City, leaving several vehicles totaled and the roadway slicked with oil.

"Shortly after 10:00 p.m. we received numerous calls of this issue," the Chisago County Sheriff's Office posted to social media. "This time the person(s) threw numerous large rocks and dumped a significant amount of oil onto passing vehicles and the roadway itself. This resulted in multiple vehicles being damaged and the roadway covered with what seems to be vehicle oil."

One of those vehicles belongs to 17-year-old Chicago native Westyn Willem, who says a boulder narrowly missed his windshield as it was dropped from the bridge above him.

"As soon as I got onto the overpass, I saw the boulder," he says. "It like bounced off of the road and it like went in my car. My car like lifted off of the ground almost and smoke just started coming into my car."

17-year-old Carter Quiggle was inside a truck that was driving south bound on I-35 and was suddenly struck by a boulder.

"9:30, 10:00, I seen a blip of the rock and then the car almost came off the ground," Quiggle explains.

Investigators are currently seeking any information from the public that could help identify the person or persons responsible.

Anyone with information which may be useful is being asked to call the Chisago County Sheriff's dispatch at 651-257-4100.
