On-again, off-again plans for a new location for Minneapolis Police Department's Third Precinct are apparently off again. At least for the moment.

Thursday, several city council members claimed they "didn't understand" what they voted for two days earlier when they voted for millions of dollars to transform part of Century Plaza Building near the Convention Center into a new home for officers.

The hang up seems to hinge on the definition of the word "temporary." Some council members balked when told that it could be for up to 10 years. The building lies outside third precinct boundaries, and was considered a temporary compromise for those who objected to other proposed sites.

The old station was burned and ransacked during the riots following the police murder of George Floyd.

The entire council voted unanimously to send the plan back to committee for further discussion.
