Anger, sadness and frustration, just some of the emotions inside a Hennepin County Courtroom as a 23-year-old makes in first appearance on criminal vehicular homicide charges.

Ryant Freeman is charged with vehicular homicide after allegedly hitting and killing 25-year-old A’miah Walker at Highway 252 and 73rd Avenue last Tuesday.

Walker's father and her friends were there to watch, as Freeman's attorney told the judge he has diabetes, and mental illness issues.

"I mean, even if you did have diabetes, I mean you can't get away with that, she's not coming back. It's amazing," says her soft-spoken father Reggie Armstrong.

He says she was his only child, a new mother and full of life.

"She had a lot of stuff going for her, so, giving you the shirt off her back, just a good kid," says Armstrong. "Very beautiful person, very free-spirited. Never did no harm to nobody."

It happened on May 19 when court documents say Walker got out of a car during an argument. She was reportedly standing on the driver's side near the fog line when Freeman struck her and failed to stop.

Investigators say that the found Freeman later that night in a damaged car matching the description of his vehicle. Police say Freeman also fled the scene.

A judge set bond at $150,000.
