Another COVID-19 milestone reached in Minnesota. Tthere have now been more than 100,000 confirmed cases in the state since the start of the pandemic.
An additional 1,066 cases were confirmed today, with another 13 deaths reported by the Minnesota Department of Health.
"The Upper Midwest right now is a house on fire," said University of Minnesota infectious disease expert Dr. Michael Osterholm. "We have the highest rates in the country. North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin are at rates (seen earlier) in Florida, Arizona, and Texas, and we're not far behind."
The data from the Minnesota Department of Health shows hospitalizations continue to trend upward as well. Of the 100,200 cases recorded in Minnesota, nearly 90,000 of those people have recovered enough to no longer be in isolation.
The health department is announcing the next locations for community testing sites. These are mass testing events where anyone can show up and get a COVID test, free of charge. The testing will take place next week in Inver Grove Heights, Willmar, St. Joseph, Fairmont, Ely, and Cloquet.
