A heads up for drivers in the south metro this weekend.
Highway 62 will be closed in both directions between Highway 100 and Interstate 35W in Edina this weekend to allow crews to remove the existing Rosland Park pedestrian bridge.
The closure starts at 10:00 p.m. Friday, and lasts until 5:00 a.m. Monday.
MnDOT says motorists should expect detours using Highway 100, Interstate 494 and Interstate 35W.
The replacement bridge is expected to open in early summer 2027. The new bridge will also be built with greater clearance above the highway to help prevent vehicle strikes, such as those that occurred in 2022, the city said.
Summary of work
- Reconstruct Hwy 62 and ramps between 28th Ave. South and 46th Ave. South in Minneapolis
- Resurface the Hwy 62 bridge over 28th Ave. South
- Replace the center median barrier
- Replace signs, including overhead signs
- Remove the pedestrian overpass at 40th Ave. South
- Widen the sidewalk on the 43rd Ave. South overpass
- Replace the storm sewer system and add water treatment ponds
There is also another round of overnight directional closures on Interstate 494 between Interstate 35W and Highway 77. Those are scheduled to start on the evening of June 29 and continue nightly through the early morning of July 2.
Those closures are necessary to allow crews to pour the 12th Avenue bridge deck over I-494.
