Some alarming news from the DEA Minneapolis office.

On Wednesday, agents seized 30 pound of meth, adding to what is expected to become a record amount of methamphetamine taken off of Minnesota streets this year.

Acting Special Agent in Charge Rafael Mattei says in 2024, they seized over 2,000 pound of meth in the state,  describing just how much that is.

"If you were to put an individual dose of meth in each of the seats at Target field, we would have to put 383 individual doses in each of those seats in order to get to the 2,000 pounds that we seized last year," Mattei explains. "So - I mean, it's a lot. It's pretty powerful stuff and we're seeing a lot more than we have in years."

Mattei says meth has always been here, but as of late there's been more of a focus on the dangers of fentanyl.

He also has noted previously that just two milligrams of fentanyl, small enough to fit on the tip of a sharpened pencil, is enough to kill a person.

“It takes only a few salt-sized grains of fentanyl to devastate a family,” Mattei said.
