It wasn’t a large demonstration, and not a lot of people even saw it.
How many people can you get to participate or pass by a rally held on a bridge on Memorial Day?
But folks who were driving the few cars that passed the several dozen people lining the St. Paul side of the Ford Parkway Bridge did manage to honk their horns and give a thumbs up.
It was the “We. The People. Remember.” rally, with protesters holding up signs critical of the current presidential administration.
That it happened on Memorial Day wasn’t an accident.
“Because it’s this holiday,” said Nan Rice of Minneapolis. “Today we’re honoring the veterans who stood up and fought for this country, and the values that the Constitution puts forward.”
She said the values are at odds with what she said is disrespect for the rule of law from the White House.
Protester Dorothy Kress of Minneapolis says the effort the group puts out is not going unnoticed.
“People are aware of it, people become aware of what’s going on, if they didn’t notice before,” she said.
