Red Flag warnings are out for nearly half of Minnesota's 88 counties... 41 of them to be exact.
All of the affected counties... including Hennepin, Ramsey, and others in the Twin Cities metro... are in central and southern Minnesota from the St. Cloud area down to the Iowa border.
This means the lack of predicted rainfall and expected gusty winds could turn a spark into a fire very quickly, especially since grasses and shrubs are bone-dry.
Officials with the Minnesota DNR say they will not issue or activate open burning permits for large vegetative debris burning during the Red Flag Warning, and campfires are discouraged.
National Weather Service forecaster Melissa Dye says Saturday is not the end of it.
"Looks like (Sunday) we might have a little bit more humidity to work with, but, still, since everything is so dry, we're so far behind with precipitation, this will really likely continue through at least Tuesday," she said.
So far this year, the Twin Cities metro has gotten less than an inch of rain.
That is well below average.
