There was a mass shooting near a homeless encampment in the Longfellow neighborhood of south Minneapolis late Monday, the second such act in less than 24 hours.
The latest incident happened around 10:00 p.m. near Lake and 27th Avenue.
Eight were reportedly shot at the encampment, four of them reported in critical condition.
Some of the victims were found inside the encampment, some on the sidewalk outside of the area.
Officials with the Minneapolis Police Department say more than one shooter could be involved.
There are no arrests and there are no suspect as of early Tuesday morning.
A number of ambulances were seen at that location last night with reports of shots fired.
"I know it's been a lot of violence lately," said MPD chief Brian O'Hara. "And we just want our community to know that we are not going to give up, and that we will continue to fight so that every person in this city can be safe."
The encampment sits on private property and has been the target of city officials who have been trying to shut it down, citing safety and unsanitary conditions.
Mayor Jacob Frey saying at the scene last night that when police are finished with their investigation, the encampment will be cleared.
"This is not safe," said Frey, pointing toward the ramshackle gathering of tents. "This is a danger to the community and it's being shut down right now."
That happening just hours after another shooting a couple miles away near Lake and 35W where five people were shot there yesterday afternoon.
O'Hara says one of the five victims has life-threatening injures.
The motive for the shooting is not known.
In a statement, Mayor Frey says the city is taking immediate steps to secure the area and crack down on the dealers and violent offenders who are exploiting it.
He also says the city will continue to provide pathways for people battling addiction to get the help they need.
