Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is trying to prevent a gang fight at the State Fair.

"It kind of reminds me of some West Side Story thing like, oh, 'we're going to meet this time and place to have our rumble.' Well, you're not doing it at the fair," says Ellison.

The Attorney General and Ramsey County Attorney John Choi have filed a lawsuit in Ramsey County to prevent two rival gangs from even being allowed into the State Fair.

The move follows a social media post where an alleged gang member referenced what he said would be the 'biggest battle of the summer' at the fair on August 29.

"We want to keep everybody safe and healthy, and quite frankly, I'd like these guys to wake up before they destroy their future because that's what they're heading towards if they don't change," Ellison added.

A hearing on that injunction is set for August 19, where a judge is expected to decide on whether or not to grant the injunction.

Ellison says there has been an alarming escalation of threats and settling of scores, and they're concerned about safety at the fair. He says they cannot tolerate such a possibility.

"We're going to prove to a judge that these guys were threatening each other," Ellison explains. "We'll show the court the threats that they were making online, and we'll show that the individuals involved have a history of violent behavior, including assaults and gun crimes."
